Premium Cedar for your Closet

The right kind of cedar when used in your closet has many benefits.  Eastern red cedar is grown and harvested in the United States.  Of all the cedar species, only Eastern red cedar holds the aromatic and absorbent qualities that are beneficial for closet use.  It was first used by American Indian tribes and was later utilized in furniture, trunks, and chests.  The qualities of aromatic cedar have long been known and used all over the world.

The absorbent nature of cedar is one of its greatest and most beneficial features.  You can use cedar in your shoes to absorb moisture and eliminate it.  This helps to prevent the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria that can give your shoes an unpleasant odor.  If your shoes already smell, place them into a tightly sealed plastic bag and put them in the freezer overnight.  This should kill any bacterium that is present and eliminate the smell.  Use a cedar shoe insert to absorb moisture and deodorize from then on.

Most people love the deodorizing properties of cedar.  It has a fresh and clean scent that is desirable in high-end closets and furniture.  But, it's not just the scent that attracts people.  It actually deodorizes and eliminates odors.  It doesn't just cover them up.  Use cedar to get rid of musty odors in closets and dressers.

Aromatic cedar is also very useful, and perhaps most well-known, for repelling insects.  You may have heard that cedar repels moths and can protect wool coats from moth damage.  However, you may not know that moths can and will lay eggs on any type of fabric.  It is the larvae that eat through the threads and damage garments.  They are attracted to the smell of our body oils that we leave on anything that we touch.  Since wool coats are not washed often, they are usually the first garments to be damaged.  Cedar repels moths, but also silverfish and cockroaches, among various other insects.
