How I can get tree sap off the shoes of children including Velcro strips?

My son came home from daycare today with his new shoes covered in tree sap. The director of the nursery advised me to use a paper towel .... I guess she's never had this problem. It's even in the velcro ... these shoes are now permanent shoes game or is there something to do the trick?

We had that problem with shoes fall past, when the remnants of Hurricane Ike blew through Ohio, and blew out green needles of the pines. We all had pine sap all our shoes. What disgusting mess. I have used both nail polish remover or alcohol, finally got off, with a small stiff brush, and alcohol. What a mess it was. I wish luck.
